Dutch Design Week

Samen met oudste naar de Dutch Design Week in de herfstvakantie.
Samen met hem inspiratie op doen; voor zijn oriëntatie op een vervolgopleiding en voor mijn studie interieurstyling.
Samen rondstruinen op de Graduation Show en naar de exposities in de Kazerne.
Instant verliefd op de combinatie van opgeknapte, hippe en vervallen panden.
En vooral blij dit samen met Sam te doen en te delen.

Een week later zomaar spontaan nog een dag naar DDW met lief en jongste kids. Lunchen en rondkijken bij Piet Hein Eek, social label, Floris Hovers en de expositie op Strijp R. En nog heel even naar Strijp S met, naast Yksi Expo, de Ontdekfabriek en Area 51 voor de kids.
En dan had ik nog Sectie-C op mijn lijstje staan. En het Veemgebouw. En PLUG IN CITY. De exposities in het Klokgebouw .... Oftewel veel te kort, maar dankbaar voor meer dan verwacht!

Just some snapshots from DDW this year. Enjoying the exhibitions at The Kazerne while having a crush on the old buildings, enjoying The Graduation Show of the Design Academy or actually enjoying visiting DDW together with Sam. 
And while having so much more on my wishlist after two days, I felt blessed with an extra spontaneous day visiting DDW.

Dutch Design blessings #3

Our second day at the Dutch Design Week we spent our time at the Inner City area of Eindhoven. Starting with breakfast at CoffeeYou before visiting the Design Academy Graduation Show called Self Unself in the 'Witte Dame'.

I really loved the Graduation Show, being exposed in this great industrial, former Philips building with huge windows creating so much incidence of sunlight. Admiring so many inspiration in one place shared by students from the Design Academy. And suprised by so many projects having a relationship with communication, healt care and psychology. Like No Milk by Debbie Hovens, A Series of Mnemonics & Revealing Maps of Cancer by Renee Scheepers, The Rejection by Marieke Vonk or Settings of Connection by Sanne Ree Barthels.

The Van Abbe museum has an expo with the theme Self Unself as well, being part of the dialoque with the Design Academy. The last three pictures give a small impression, but unfortunately the battery of my camera was empty after visiting the Graduation Show. Happy for having my iPhone as a back-up, but unfortunately not all the pictures taken inside the Van Abbe were sharp enough. So perhaps you should go see the exhibition yourself which is still possible until the 17th of November!

Ending our Inner City trip at the Dutch Design Week at Crowdy House. A new crowdfunding platform for designers launched this week with beautiful concepts to be produced when supported by enough people.

Feeling so blessed for two days of inspiration, meetings with lovely people and leaving with so many impressions and pictures in my head. And for sharing blogpost #300 with you!

Dutch Design Week #2

While travelling from Strijp R to the 'Klokgebouw' on Strijp S on our first day visiting the DDW we passed the 'Torenallee'. An industrial area with lots of workspaces for designers, interior shops like Yksi Expo and the Ontdekfabriek, where kids can build their own design from left-over materials (also open every week of the year on wednesday and sunday!).

We visited the Dutch Design Awards exposed at the Gerard building and the exhibition of 'Hier is Utrecht', while falling in love with the soft cabinets made from foam rubber by Dewi van der Klomp. 'Hier is Utrecht' is a designers collective from the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten having there design projects exposed at the cool Skate Park AREAFIFTYONE during the Dutch Design Week.

Area51 is located at the 'Ketelhuisplein', a rough area with beautiful graffiti-walls, also containing an original Lois shop and great restaurants like Radio Royaal where we had dinner.
Radio Royaal is situated in a former Philips energy factory. Such an impressive building and such a great interior with lots of styling details. Feeling sorry I couldn't make pictures of it because of the evening light. Which is a nice excuse to come back soon :)

Dutch Design Week #1

The Dutch Design Week, every year 9 days of design, art, interior, and most of all lots of inspiration in Eindhoven. In 2012 I couldn't join this great event, so happy to be there 2 days this year: walking around, making pictures, acquiring inspiration. Visiting Strijp R, Strijp S, the 'Klokgebouw', 'Hier is Utrecht', the Dutch Design Award, the Design Academy Graduation Show at the 'Witte Dame', the exhibition at the 'Van Abbe Museum', the inner city, Crowdy House and dining at Radio Royaal. Happy to share the inspiration in some posts the coming week.
Like sharing our visit at Piet Hein Eek and Ontwerpduo on this first day of my DDW-posts.
I truly love the Piet Hein Eek spot on Strijp-R, with new initiatives like Social Label, an exhibition of Anton Beeke, It's a miracle and the PHE-bench developed in cooperation with Freitag.
A great place to stay and have lunch (not only on DDW-days!).
Buying a neon pink tallow developed by Ontwerpduo, who were having an open house on the PHE-area during the DDW. Showing their designs like the great cageling, rockid and light forest. Not buying one of the tallows of their great standard color collections, but a try-out. Sharing a picture of it the coming days.

And so nice to travel between the different DDW spots with the Mini Design Rides :)

In love with this Piet Hein Eek cabinet! Designed in collaboration with Histor.
Thinking about how to paint and decorate it, in order to win one of the 101! Mixed feelings because I love it the way it is. But meant to inspire to make your own design and even decorate it yourself on the 9th of november with the other hundred winners! Must be a great day!

I wishlist

Afgelopen week werd mijn I wishlist geboren op Pinterest. Om mooie dingen die op mijn wensenlijstje staan vast te leggen. Niet dat ik ze anders vergeet, maar omdat ze te mooi zijn om niet met anderen te delen. Vanaf nu zal ik op mijn blog regelmatig items van mijn verlanglijstje plaatsen ter inspiratie. 

Zoals de prachtige lampen van Piet Hein Eek, die ik voor het eerst zag op de Dutch Design Week, gemaakt van een ijzeren raamwerk bekleedt met stropdaszijde. Prachtig, omdat ze imposant zijn, maar tegelijkertijd ook fragiel en het licht zo mooi laten doorschijnen als ze branden. Ik vind ze geweldig!

From this week on I'm gathering my favorite wannahaves on a I wishlist at Pinterest. To remember, to share and to inspire. This week the great PHE lamps made from silk tie which I spotted on the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven last octobre. Impresive and fragile at the same time. I love them! 

Dutch Design Week: YKSI expo store

Yksi is een prachtige winkel voor Dutch Design in Eindhoven. Ze presenteren en verkopen een uitgebreide collectie designmeubelen en accessoires van Nederlandse bodem Met ontwerpen van Koninklijke Tichelaar Makkum, Goods, Moooi, Floris Hovers, Mirjam van der Lubbe en hun eigen label Yksi Design. Een design snoepwinkel in de voormalige Apparatenfabriek van Philips op Strijp S, die ik bezocht tijdens de Dutch Design Week maar die het hele jaar geopend is. Als je niet kunt wachten met shoppen kun je ook terecht in hun webwinkel.

In hetzelfde gebouw vind je ook de Ontdekfabriek, een inspirerende omgeving waar kinderen op woensdag en zondag terecht kunnen voor het maken van eigen bouwwerken en creaties en voor het ontdekken van techniek. Terwijl je als ouder geniet van een een kop koffie of juist lekker meedoet! Tijdens de Dutch Design Week werden hier workshops gehouden door ondermeer Ontwerplab MUSwerk | jaszakschatten.nl

Dutch Design Week: Piet Hein Eek

Afgelopen week was de 10e Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven. Een geweldig evenement volop inspiratie voor iedereen die van design, wonen en kunst houdt. Het was voor mij de 1e keer dat ik dit event bezocht en ik was onder de indruk van de enorme hoeveelheid mooie en originele design-producten, maar vooral ook van de relaxte sfeer waarin iedereen van locatie naar locatie ging. Op eigen gelegenheid, op leenfietsen of in hippe Mini's die als stap-maar-in-taxi's overal door de stad reden.
We zijn gestart bij Piet Hein Eek die in een oud-Philips locatie huist op Strijp R. Een unieke entourage voor zijn sloophouten meubels, servies, lampen en accessoires. Ik werd verliefd op de prachtige lampen voorzien van stoffen kappen in stoere, lieve en retro dessins. In het pand wordt tijdens de Dutch Design Week ook een podium geboden voor andere ontwerpers.
We hebben het bezoek aan Piet Hein Eek in stijl afgesloten in het overweldigende restaurant: wat een prachtig gebouw, mooie inrichting, leuke mensen en heerlijk eten.
Wat fijn dat Piet Hein Eek niet alleen tijdens de DDW te bezoeken is!

Last week I visited the tenth anniversiry of the Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven for the first time. A great event for everybody who loves design, interior decoration and art. Impressed by so many wonderful inspiration, but also by the easy going atmosphere. We went to Piet Hein Eek in a wonderful building on Strijp R and enjoyed his wooden furniture, tableware, lamps and accessories. It also has a great restaurant and you can visit this great place-to-be the whole year!
